Lionsgate has released the first trailer for its reboot of Hellboy, based on Mike Mignola’s comic book series. Judging from this first look, the new adaptation will be a lot darker than Guillermo del Toro’s previous two takes on the material, with Stranger Things’ David Harbour stepping into those red horns but still making room for cracking jokes.
The movie also stars Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, Sasha Lane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Sophie Okonedo. While it had originally been called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen (that’s Jovovich’s character, a.k.a. Nimue), the R-rated film has been simply retitled Hellboy. Watch the first trailer:
The official synopsis is pretty short:
Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.
Hellboy comes to theaters April 12, 2019.
